Stage Light is an original hand-embroidered portrait of legendary performer and activist Josephine Baker, captured in an archival black-and-white image and reimagined through the language of thread and texture.The image is heat-transferred onto cotton and adorned with vibrant hand embroidery—including a radiating yellow and red sunburst stitched above her, playful patchwork details in red and blue, and a bright blue border that frames her like a spotlight.

Set in a vintage-inspired wood frame, this 5″ x 7″ textile piece invites celebration, resilience, and movement.

This work pays homage to Josephine Baker’s artistry, activism, and enduring legacy, blending fiber art with fashion history and cultural memory.
